Erling Haaland has already smashed records that have stood for a long time, and he looks set to break even more amazing records by the end of the 2023 English Premier League season.
The question being asked here is, will Haaland stay in the Premier League long enough to break more records? Take a closer look right here.
Who is Erling Haaland?
Erling Haaland is one of the most famous footballers on the planet. The 22-year-old Norwegian international men’s professional player was actually born in Leeds, England, in July 2000, when his famous father played for Manchester City, where young Haaland plays today.
He was in England for the first three years of his life before returning to Norway. The left-footed striker, who can also use his right foot just as well to score goals, wears the number 9 shirt of Manchester City.
He joined the club from German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in May 2022 for a reported fee of £51.2 million (€60 million).
How has he fared so far, and what records has Haaland already broken since playing in the Premier League?
He scored two goals in his first away debut when they beat West Ham away. It only took him until August 27th to score his first Premier League hat-trick (3 goals in one game), and then just four days later, he netted another hat-trick against Nottingham Forest.
The feat saw him enter the record books as the quickest player to score two hat-tricks. The previous record holder took 14 games to score two hat-tricks. In his very first month as an English Premier League player, he was awarded the Premier League Player of the Month accolade.
He also scored two goals in his first Champions League game for Man City, and by doing so, he became the first player in the history of Champions League football to score 25 goals in just 20 appearances.
His next record came against Manchester United in October 2022, when he scored yet another hat-trick in his third successive home game! The previous player, Michael Owen, took 48 games to score three hat-tricks. Erling Haaland achieved it in eight league games.

Haaland is also now the fastest player in Premier League history to score 20 goals. In another astonishing feat, he scored his fourth hat-trick in January 2023 against Wolves, which took his tally to 25 goals in 19 Premier League games.
That’s not all. In a Champions League match against RB Leipzig in March, he scored five goals in one game, taking his tally across all competitions to 39 goals. The last Manchester City to score this many goals in a season was in 1928-29 by Tommy Johnson – a record that Haaland has already beaten.
He then went on to score a SIXTH hat-trick against Burnley in an FA Cup match.
What records can Haaland break if he stays on course?
Haaland needs just eight more goals to beat Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s record of scoring 34 goals in one season. He is well on course to break this record and shatter several other records in the process.
Sergio Aguero is the player with the most hat-tricks (12), and then Alan Shearer (11) and Robbie Fowler (9). Thierry Henry, Harry Kane, and Michael Owen are all equal on 8 hat-tricks. Haaland should break Aguero’s record too.
Every striker’s record that can be beaten will more than likely be beaten by Haaland, if not this year, next year, but that’s only if he stays at Manchester City and if Manchester City continues to play in the Champions League.
What are the odds of Haaland being this year’s Premier League top scorer?
If you were to place a wager on Haaland right now to be the Premier League’s top goalscorer at the end of the season, you would be looking at odds of around 1/50 in the UK fractional odds format.
This means the bookies give him a 98.00% implied probability rate of getting the most goals. In the American/moneyline odds format, 1/3 equates to -5,000, and in European decimal odds, it’s 1.02.
He also has a 75.20% chance of being the PFA Player of the Year 2022/23. For this market, he’s currently priced at 33/100 (-303, or 1.33). In other words, with these odds, it’s a fairly safe bet. However, try not to forget that no bet is guaranteed and that anything can happen in football.
